Yesterday at The International 2017 Valve, an unusual show match was organized: one of the most famous daters of the planet – Danil “Dendi” Ishutin – came to Seattle to fight the bot! Bot, as it turned out during the fight, was not easy: his development was engaged in the American non-profit research company OpenAI, one of the founders of which is the entrepreneur Ilon Mask.
The advanced artificial intelligence before the demonstration to its public was tested by several well-known cybersportsmen – Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan, Artour “Arteezy” Babaev, Per Anders Olsson “Pajkatt” Lille. As the developers told and showed, the bot was much stronger than each of them. Viewers of The International 2017 were able to see this themselves: on the stage of “Ki-arena” bot on the air crushed Dendi twice in a row!
Employees of OpenAI told a little about how artificial intelligence managed to achieve such a level of skill. According to them, the bot was trained, playing only against a copy of himself – in 14 days he played over ten thousand matches on Shadow Fiend! At the beginning of his journey he had a very poor idea of how to play Dota 2, but in about an hour of practice he managed to go one level with the usual bots in the game, and after 2 weeks of continuous training he surpassed the skill of the strongest professional players in the world! The brainchild of OpenAI spends as much time in the game as no one man can do – thanks to this the bot is so strong.
Danil “Dendi” Ishutin in an interview after the show-match shared his impressions of the game against such advanced artificial intelligence: “I think that it is real to win, but difficult.” Danil called the bot “the ideal sparring partner,” which is confirmed by the developers of OpenAI: many players who took part in the test expressed their desire to use the bot in their training program.
Developers AI demonstrated the basic skills that the bot has already mastered, and Shared their plans for the future. The next stage in the development of the project is the creation of a team consisting of five bots. Representatives of OpenAI said that at the next The International we will probably witness a battle between five professionals and five bots. In addition, the creators of the AI will try to mix the bots and real players and see what kind of result such a team can achieve.
